Nespresso has introduced a paper-based capsule range that can be composted at home, providing customers with a more sustainable coffee experience. This innovative packaging, which maintains Nespresso's high-quality coffee taste, is the result of three years of research and development, prioritizing environmental concerns.
Paper-Based Innovation and Technology The new paper capsules are developed using advanced technology to preserve the freshness and flavor of the coffee. The interior is coated with a polymer layer that protects the coffee from oxidation, and the capsules are perfectly compatible with Nespresso Original machines, thanks to collaboration with the Nestlé Packaging Science Institute. They are designed to maintain the quality of the coffee even under high-pressure extraction.
Balancing Sustainability and Quality Nespresso is committed to providing high-quality coffee experiences while considering the environment. The newly launched paper-based capsules complement the existing aluminum capsule range, using 80% recycled aluminum. This allows Nespresso to reduce carbon emissions and offer sustainable options to customers.
The new paper-based capsules will be launched in France in 2023, followed by Switzerland and other European countries. The European expansion is scheduled to begin in 2025. In some countries, the capsules will be included in public bio-waste collection systems, certified for home composting by TÜV Austria.

The packaging used 100% paper-based innovative material made through the molding technique, enhancing its eco-friendliness. This project goes beyond packaging creation, serving as a case that reflects the brand's values and sustainable vision.
3. Nature-Inspired Design: Forest Leaf Concept Emphasizing the Comfort and Eco-friendliness of Nature The design of the Greenfinger laundry detergent packaging is based on the 'Forest Leaf' concept, capturing the warmth and comfort of nature. The shape of the leaves is intuitively applied to the packaging to highlight Greenfinger's eco-friendly identity. The sleeve design visualizes the scent of cotton and blossom flowers, effectively conveying the product's characteristics. The vibrant image of the forest and warm emotions were styled to enhance the appeal of this eco-friendly product.
4. Sustainable Material: A Case of Circular Economy with Unprinted Paper Mold Enhanced Recycling Convenience with Eco-Friendly Paper Packaging The paper mold is expressed with unprinted embossing, preserving the natural texture of the paper and capturing the warm Greenfinger feel. It is designed to be easily disposed of and recycled as paper without the need for additional plastic separation, improving consumer convenience. This sustainable packaging, which eliminates plastic elements, is recognized as an ideal example of future packaging transitioning into a circular economy.
5. 2023 Red Dot Design Award Winner Brand & Communication Design Category - Award of Excellence The Greenfinger laundry detergent set packaging was awarded the Award of Excellence in the Brand & Communication Design category at the 2023 Red Dot Design Award. This award highlights that the Greenfinger packaging's eco-friendliness and unique brand identity have gained international recognition. The collaboration between REVATION and Kimberly-Clark has resulted in a project that satisfies both sustainable design and consumer convenience, making it an exemplary case.
